Apple recently reported that users of its gadgets have downloaded 15 billion applications, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company’s app store currently offers more than 425,000 applications, with new ones constantly being created, and its overwhelming success has led technology rivals to create their own stores.
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.
Proving that imitation is not always the sincerest form of flattery, Apple has been fighting Amazon for calling its online application shop an “App Store,” citing that the phrase was infringing on its pending trademark. A judge recently denied Apple’s argument, but the company has plenty to celebrate with this major app milestone.
