Wild horses couldn’t stop Anheuser-Busch from bringing back those beloved Clydesdale horses for another Super Bowl ad, so football fans can expect to see those icons star in two brand-new TV commercials for the beverage giant during the big game. One ad will corner the market on cute as the Clydesdales share the screen with an adorable puppy, while another will salute these stately horses as part of a salute to our nation’s heroes.
The Clydesdales have earned an important place in Budweiser’s advertising and branding history, with the first appearing in 1933 to celebrate the end of prohibition in the U.S. Since 1986, the horses have been seen at many special events and in parades, yet their most notable showing is in high-profile ads during the Super Bowl.

They have become such a fan favorite that when Anheuser-Busch announced that the Clydesdales would not appear in a 2010 Super Bowl ad, fans protested so much that the company was forced to reconsider that move. They let their Facebook fans vote on one of three ads that would appear during the Super Bowl, with the Clydesdales as one of the options. It was no surprise when the horses beat out the other two concepts and the Clydesdales have remained a fan favorite to this day.
“The Budweiser Clydesdales are an icon of the brand and have become an icon of the Super Bowl as well,” said Budweiser vice president, Brian Perkins. “These majestic horses represent the values of the brand and universal values of trust, quality and nobility that appeal to audiences of all ages.”
