Better Fetch a Tissue Before Watching Budweiser’s New Drinking and Driving PSA

Budweiser is once again puttin’ on the dog in its latest public service announcement promoting responsible drinking. But rather than touch on alcohol or partying, the 60-second spot touches the heart with the story about the bond between a man and his dog. The ad captures the emotional sentiment of Budweiser’s “Puppy Love” ad, which was run during the last Super Bowl and became the most-watched Super Bowl ad of the year with nearly 52 million YouTube views to date. Mashable.com featured more on this ad PSA that shows how man’s best friend can be man’s best savior.

The Tale of a Wagging Tail

The ad is titled “Friends are Waiting” and it features a guy and his adorable yellow Labrador Retriever, Cooper. The spot warms the heart by following their bond of companionship and friendship over the years, leading up to Cooper being left home alone while the guy goes out for the night with his friends.

A Bud or His Buddy?

The viewer watches as Cooper awaits his buddy’s return, and leads to the assumption that the guy never came back. But a surprise twist at the end reinforces the importance of responsible drinking and makes the message stay with the viewer long after it’s over.

“Friendship, camaraderie and enjoying great times are at the heart of Budweiser’s most popular campaigns, and this video maintains that tradition but with an unexpected twist,” said Brian Perkins, VP of marketing. “Budweiser is known for connecting with beer drinkers in memorable ways, and our efforts to promote responsible drinking through this video are no exception.”
