Facebook’s Photo Library Dwarfs Everything On Planet

Facebook’s photo library currently boasts 140 billion photos, which is 10,000 times larger than the photo catalog in the Library of Congress. Gizmodo.com reported on Facebook’s domination of digital photography today.

This year alone, people will upload over 70 billion photos to Facebook. Since it’s expected that a total of 375 billion digital photos will be taken worldwide throughout the year, this translates into about 20 percent of all the year’s digital photos ending up on the social media site.

According to 1000memories, humanity has taken 3.5 trillion photos since the debut of the camera in the 1800’s. At this rate, Facebook may become the ultimate digital chronicle of the trends and the times.
