comScore reported that July brought a record number of U.S. unique visitors to both Facebook and Twitter, with Facebook drawing 162 million unique U.S. visitors and Twitter seeing 32.8 million. Techcrunch.com offered insight on this surge in social media traffic.
Twitter’s steady increase in traffic is especially notable since the site splits traffic between its own mobile clients and numerous third-party clients. Twitter also recently switched over from its basic Web interface to a featured-filled Web app.
But the one to watch is Google+ which is continually gaining users and may eventually pose a threat to Twitter, despite some reports that its growth is slowing. Other social networking sites did not have such a successful July, with LinkedIn experiencing a slight decrease in unique U.S. visitors and MySpace steadily losing traffic.
