As Twitter continues to spread its wings to soar above its social media rivals, the network is now planning to purchase SnappyTV to amp up its Twitter Amplify program. SnappyTV is a cloud-based, live video platform that enables users to quickly edit and share clips from TV broadcasts. In addition to being popular with many major brands, the platform is used by a number of Twitter’s media partners to promote and share television video clips in real-time on the network through their Amplify program. Mashable.com posted additional details on this snap decision that should further boost Twitter’s social standing among advertisers.
In recent months, Twitter has been trying to channel itself into a true social TV service. The company also snapped up two other social TV startups just a few months ago to add to its television lineup. The goal is to increase audience engagement and bring in more TV advertising revenue.
“As we continue to invest in video, it’s important for us to provide tools that make it easy for TV broadcasters, businesses, and event producers to share high-quality videos,” Twitter explained. “To that end, we’ve agreed to acquire SnappyTV.”
