Twitter recently announced that the micro-blogging service was currently sending out 350 billion tweets each day. The Los Angeles Times took a closer look at how the communication powerhouse has evolved and exploded since its humble debut as a text-messaging and Web service in 2006.
“For context on the speed of Twitter’s growth, in January of 2009, users sent two million Tweets a day, and one year ago they posted 65 million a day,” according to Twitter in a June blog post.
This achievement comes as Twitter celebrates its fifth birthday and the site’s co-founders Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone have been actively tweeting and talking about Twitter’s phenomenal rise to power. Some of the more recent congratulatory tweets have promoted various presentday milestones such as signing up 600,000 Twitter accounts in a single day compared to that same number over 16 months in the beginning.
With Twitter’s rapid rise to social ubiquity, its only limit is the 140-character count.
