Just when you thought you knew everything about social media, Facebook announced plans to introduce an app that could change everything about social media as we know it. Facebook recently shared plans to launch a so-called “app for everything” that will let publishers and marketers distribute social content through its Messenger service. Business2Community.com shared everything that’s known so far about this app that could completely change social content distribution.
While Facebook is currently the top app in the United States, Messenger has secured the second-most popular spot in the nation, with one billion users. Messenger’s rise to popularity is largely attributed to Facebook’s decision to make the messaging app a separate download necessary for users who wanted to keep chatting through the social network.
This move made Messenger into a standalone chat app, which was a wise move since chat apps have been dominating Japan, China, and most of Europe in recent years. With the announcement of an app that would make Messenger into a digital distribution hub, Facebook appears to be positioning Messenger to become a must in our digital lives.
Right now, few details are known about Facebook’s precise plans for content distribution. But a couple of publishers have already started sharing content via Messenger chat. Still, it remains to be seen whether users will like receiving their daily digital content through a pop-up chat window.
Meanwhile, marketers are excited by the opportunity for one-on-one interaction that Messenger can offer. With Facebook’s promising plans to make Messenger a social media must, publishers and marketers may get everything they want and more for social distribution.
