Fashion meets film in this sensational exhibition that explores the roles costumes play in creating unforgettable screen characters. The drama unfolds with forty-three spectacular costumes worn by film stars such as Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Renee Zellweger, Heath Ledger, Nicole Kidman, Vanessa Redgrave, Colin Firth and others. These costumes capture the essence of the characters and vividly transport you to Elizabethan England, 17th-century Virginia, 19th-century Paris, colonial Shanghai and the Neverland of Peter Pan. From January 19 through April 17, 2011, discover the drama of dressing for the silver screen in this extraordinary exhibit that puts fashion in film center stage.
Costumes do more than clothe the characters. They set the scene, express the emotion, convey the period and place, and let you live the story. This exhibit provides a closer look at the hand-crafted details and meticulous design featured in fashions from many of our favorite films. From the opulent 18th-century silk brocade coat worn by Heath Ledger in Casanova to the distressed leather jacket worn by Daniel Craig as he hid from the Nazi’s during World War 2 in Defiance, experience the beauty and brilliance of these stunning costumes that outfitted their movies with authenticity and allure.
Cut! Costume and the Cinema will be on display from January 19 through April 17, 2011 at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Mizner Park. For more information, call 561-392-2500 or visit www.bocamuseum.org
