Google has launched the Knowledge Graph Carousel for local search results. The announcement followed many recent sightings of Carousel image displays for various categories in SERPs beyond the usual listings for restaurants and hotels, as well as reports of an updated design. SearchEngineland.com posted the details of how Google is getting larger by going local.
Google rolled out Carousel results immediately in English in the United States. Additional languages and features will be offered in the future.
Now, when users search for a local place on their desktops, they will see a Carousel display of images listed horizontally at the top of the SERP. As part of the new design, these images will appear on a black background.
To easily scroll through additional images, users just need to click the arrow on the right side of the Carousel. They can also pull results for restricted areas by simply zooming in on the map. Users can get details about a local location, ranging from photos to review scores, with a quick click on the location’s image on the Carousel.
With the launch of this local feature, it looks like Google is firmly focused on leveraging local to secure both its prominence and dominance.
