New York is a fast-paced place but the city wants residents to stop, snap, and share why the city makes them love where they live with its second annual #LoveNYC Instagram Photo Contest. The promotion will once again include Twitter, yet this year it’s expanding its reach to Facebook because the social media network is now using hashtags. While last year’s contest drew 2,000 entries, many more are expected this year due to the inclusion of Facebook users and the prominent role of Instagram. AllFacebook.com posted more on the city’s social photo promotion.
“I know from experience how unique New Yorkers are, and I’m looking forward to see how they’ll share their different views and perspectives of the city,” said photographer Brian Stanton, founder of Humans of New York and one of the contest judges. “This contest will be a fun and innovative way to see how New Yorkers choose to express themselves.
Other judges include community leaders, artists, and media celebrities like The Mobile Media Lab co-founder Liz Eswein and Artsy founder Carter Cleveland. The panel of judges will narrow the entries down to four from each borough and then the public will vote for their favorite photos on Facebook. The one winner from each borough will become its official Instagram ambassador. The winning photographs will be featured on New York City’s social media channels and then presented in a digital exhibit at the New York Public Library in late September.
To enter, New York residents must first snap photos of their favorite features of the five boroughs. Then, they can upload their photos on Instagram or Twitter under the hashtag #LoveNYC, as well as on Facebook through the photo contest app Offerpop on Facebook.com/nycgov. Entries will be accepted through August 18.
