Pinterest came to fame as a photo-sharing website and now it’s rising in the ranks as an e-commerce contender with its introduction of personal price drop notifications. The new feature will alert people when prices drop on items they’ve pinned. SearchEngineWatch.com posted additional details on how Pinterest is pinning its future on e-commerce.
“It is a very clever move,” said Adam Dacosta, a social media manager for Amplify. “As the site develops into a place where consumers can look for updates and deals on their favorite products, more business and brands will flock towards it, which will eventually generate money for Pinterest. It is definitely heading down the road of an e-commerce contender.”
These price drop notifications will be automatically generated and rolled out to users’ accounts throughout the month. The notifications will be sent through aggregated and summarized emails in an effort to keep users from bring spammed.
In addition to making Pinterest more valuable to users and encouraging them to spend a greater amount of time on the site pinning, this move will also generate more shopping revenue for businesses and drive even more brands to the Pinterest platform. It will make pinning a winning strategy for everyone involved.
