Web pages that feature Twitter share buttons get seven times more social media mentions than sites without these links, according to a BrightEdge analysis of more than 4 million tweets. These social sharing links clearly present outstanding social media marketing opportunities and exposure to millions of consumers, yet almost 50 percent of the 10,000 largest websites do not include these social sharing buttons. MediaPost.com provided some surprising insights from this social sharing study.
“Social sharing buttons can drive real social traffic that will inevitably drive sales, brand awareness or affinity,” said Jim Yu, CEO of BrightEdge. “But brands are not taking advantage of this simple, cost-free tool.”
Currently, Facebook plug-ins are displayed on 50.3% of the top 10,000 websites with sharing links, while Twitter buttons are displayed on 42.5% of these sites. Google+ and LinkedIn are featured on fewer than 10% of these sites, but their adoption rates continue to grow.
It is clear that social sharing buttons offer enormous social media marketing opportunities and now is the time for businesses to share in their benefits.
