Twitter users can expect a fresh look to their profile pages on both the desktop and mobile versions, along with a completely redesigned iPad app. Audiences got their first glimpse of the changes on this morning’s episode of the TODAY Show when Twitter CEO Dick Costolo announced their debut and displayed them on the show’s updated Twitter pages. The rollout of the new pages has already begun and will continue over the next few months.
The most prominent profile page revisions revolved around a new orientation that emphasizes the visual elements on the page. The new desktop version of TODAY’s Twitter page featured a large, banner-type header along the top of the page similar in style to Facebook’s Timeline with the top avatar shifted to the center of the page. In addition, the photo stream featured larger images and has been placed higher on the page with the extra benefit of now being accessible on the apps.
Twitter’s new iPad app was designed to make the mobile Twitter experience as comparable as possible to the desktop, iPhone, and Android versions. This included providing access to the ever-increasing features on the social media site itself and offering the ability to easily view full-screen versions of photos, videos, or article summaries with a single touch.
The company is extremely excited about these updates and looks forward to how they will enhance the Twitter experience for users everywhere.
