Volvo is playing ball with Major League Baseball to let mobile users score free live streaming of baseball games throughout the month of April, according to Mediaweek. By downloading MLB.com’s At Bat 11 application for Apple’s iPad, iPhone and iTouch, fans can stream all out-of-market games live at no charge, courtesy of Volvo. Access to these games is usually reserved for paying MLB.TV subscribers.
Volvo’s partnership with MLB was conducted by Mobext, the mobile marketing partners of the digital agency Media Contacts.
The free streaming promotion is not available on Android devices. In fact, this is the first year that Android phone and tablet owners can even subscribe to MLB.TV.
Still, all subscribers will benefit from the numerous new features that MLB has added to its revamped Apple and Android applications. MLB subscribers will now be able to watch live highlights from important games throughout the season, as well as have access to archived games, and see live game simulations featuring graphics from the PlayStation title MLB 11: The Show.
The MLB application also allows fans to ‘check in’ at ballparks via Foursquare, and create profiles and share comments on Facebook and Twitter.
With Volvo’s generosity and MLB’s upgrades, baseball fans are the real winners.
